Red routes are a parking restriction that we have started to make use of in places where traditional double yellow lines and loading bans are not appropriate. These are most commonly seen in London, however they can also be used outside of London where necessary.
They are typically used in areas where the free flow of traffic is paramount, which can include around schools or on junctions.
The Two Types
‘No stopping at any time’ – indicated by double red lines.
‘No stopping’ during times shown on the sign – which is indicated by a single red line with accompanying signage
What Does ‘No Stopping’ Mean?
‘No Stopping’ includes stopping to park, load/unload or to board and alight from a vehicle. This is similar to Clearway restrictions which are commonly found in all our districts.
These restrictions apply to the carriageway, pavement and verge in the same way that yellow lines do.
Where can I find a red route?
There are a number of locations with red routes including:
- Ardleigh
- Harwich – on entry to the Port
- Hatfield Forest
- Within Epping Forest (currently a temporary Traffic Regulation Order)
- East Mersea
